- Only cancer program in three counties ( Cumberland , Salem and Gloucester ) designated as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
- The Cumberland County Cancer Coalition (SJH is the lead agency for this grant-funded program) conducted two very successful programs: a colon cancer awareness community education program in March and a state-wide cancer survivorship conference in November. SJH also hosted a barbershop outreach initiative for prostate cancer awareness. Outreach was also conducted at the new NJ Motorsports Park in Millville. An African American breast cancer support group was formed and members participated in the statewide breast cancer coalition as well as outreach activities in Bridgeton.
- Reference date for SJH Cancer Registry is January 1, 1982. Four multidisciplinary cancer conferences/case review meetings held each month. National medical guidelines reviewed and utilized at each meeting.
- Is a member of the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC). South Jersey Healthcare (SJH) medical staff member, Robert Frelick, MD, FACP, medical oncologist, is a founding member of ACCC.
- South Jersey Healthcare Regional Cancer Center (SJHRCC) became a part of the Fox Chase Cancer Center Network in 1995
- A clinical trials program began in 1996. We have a Federal Wide Assurance (FWA) authorizing us to conduct NCI/NIH research.
- 35 research studies are open as of 1/05
- 194 participants in clinical trials program since inception
