American College of Surgeons (ACoS)
The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer sets standards for quality multidisciplinary cancer care delivered primarily in hospital settings; surveys hospitals to assess compliance with those standards; collects standardized and quality data from approved hospitals to measure treatment patterns and outcomes; and uses the data to evaluate hospital provider performance and develop effective educational interventions to improve cancer care outcomes at the national and local level. The SJH Cancer Program is accredited by ACoS as a Comprehensive Community Hospital Cancer Program.
Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC)
The Association of Community Cancer Centers was borne out of a simple premise: To give oncology practitioners in the community, at that time treating 85 percent of all cancer patients in the nation, a voice in the national oncology forum. Robert W. Frelick, MD, FAACP, a medical oncologist on the SJH medical staff, was president of the ACCC 1980-1981.
